However, there are exceptions:

  •  Monthly Specials: If you schedule your service through our online scheduling tool for a specific monthly offer that can include a complimentary or reduced-cost evaluation.

While Subarus are known for their reliability, some common issues can arise. These often include:

  • Head Gasket Issues: Particularly in older Boxer engines, external or internal head gasket leaks can occur.
  • Oil Leaks: Valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, and front timing cover leaks are relatively common.
  • CVT Transmission Issues: Some models with Continuously Variable Transmissions may experience shudder or noise.
  • Check Engine Light (CEL): Often triggered by O2 sensors, catalytic converter issues, or evaporative emission control (EVAP) system problems.
  • Wheel Bearings: Can wear out, leading to humming noises.
  • Suspension Components: Bushings and struts can degrade over time.

A "Check Engine" light (CEL) can indicate a wide range of issues, from something minor like a loose gas cap to more serious problems with your engine or emissions system. Common reasons for a Subaru CEL include:

  • Faulty oxygen sensor
  • Failing catalytic converter
  • Loose or faulty gas cap
  • Misfiring  spark plug or ignition coil
  • Issues with the EVAP system (evaporative emission control)

At Subie Repair Specialists, we use factory-level diagnostic tools to accurately read trouble codes and pinpoint the exact cause, ensuring an accurate Subaru repair.

Certain older Subaru models (typically those with 2.5L EJ series Boxer engines produced before the mid-2010s) are more commonly associated with head gasket failures. Newer Subaru engines have significantly improved head gasket designs, making this issue much less prevalent. If you suspect a head gasket problem (e.g., overheating, coolant loss, white exhaust smoke), our Subaru specialists can perform a thorough inspection and offer precise head gasket repair solutions.

Oil leaks are a common concern for many vehicle owners, including Subarus. In Subarus, common sources of oil leaks include:

  • Valve cover gaskets
  • Oil pan gaskets
  • Front timing chain/cover gaskets (on newer DOHC engines)
  • Rear main seals (less common, but possible)
  • Oil pressure switch or oil cooler gaskets

Our technicians are experts at diagnosing and repairing Subaru oil leaks efficiently.

Our Testing and Evaluation Confidence Guarantee ensures you get clear answers about your Subaru's issues. You pay for our expert testing and evaluation service to identify the root cause. If, after exhausting all professional testing and evaluation procedures, our Subaru specialists cannot conclusively pinpoint the problem (and it's not excluded, such as purely electrical shorts or inoperable engines), the labor portion of your testing and evaluation fee will be waived. Any parts, fluids, or chemicals used during the evaluation remain payable. This guarantee provides peace of mind that you'll get a definitive diagnosis. For full details, please refer to our dedicated Terms and Conditions page.

Subaru engines are famous for their unique "Boxer" configuration. Unlike traditional inline or V-shaped engines, a Boxer engine has horizontally opposed pistons, meaning they lie flat and move horizontally. This design offers several advantages:

  • Lower Center of Gravity: Improves handling, stability, and reduces body roll.
  • Reduced Vibrations: The opposing pistons naturally balance each other, leading to a smoother running engine.
  • Compact Design: Allows for more efficient packaging within the engine bay.

This distinctive design is a hallmark of Subaru's engineering philosophy.
